Literacy
My approach to literacy instruction is rooted in the belief that all children can become confident readers and writers when given meaningful, responsive, and joyful learning experiences.
Philosophy Statement
Literacy is the foundation of all learning. In my classroom, reading and writing are not isolated subjects — they are woven into every part of the day. I strive to create a print-rich environment where students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and develop their own voices. My instruction is guided by formative assessment, student interests, and research-based practices that support decoding, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and composition.
I also believe that families and communities are essential partners in literacy development. By honoring students' home languages and cultures, I help bridge home and school literacies and affirm each child's identity as a learner.
Key Instructional Practices
These pillars guide my literacy instruction and planning.
